The $2,500 Heart-Safe Rebate: Is Your GTA Facility Leaving Money on the Table?

Great News

March 2026 has brought a unique financial opportunity to the Greater Toronto Area’s industrial and construction sectors. While many businesses in Mississauga, Brampton, and Vaughan are focused on the March 31 fiscal year-end, the savviest managers are looking at a different number: $2,500.

That is the maximum reimbursement the WSIB’s new AED Program is offering to eligible businesses. Whether you are mandated to have one or simply want to protect your team, 2026 is the year to make your workplace "Heart-Safe" for zero net cost.

The New 2026 Mandate

As of January 1, 2026, Ontario Regulation 157/25 requires an AED to be installed and maintained on any construction project that:

  • Employs 20 or more workers regularly.
  • Is expected to last 3 months or longer.

Why the "Gold Rush"?

The WSIB isn't just enforcing a rule; they are funding the solution. If you purchased an AED between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2027, you can apply for a full reimbursement of the purchase price and taxes, up to $2,500 per qualifying project.

For Manufacturing & Warehousing: Even if you aren't in construction, adding an AED is a strategic move. Under the Health and Safety Excellence Program, implementing emergency response topics like AED placement can earn you additional premium rebates and the "Safety Leader" digital badge—increasing your credibility with clients and the WSIB alike.

3 Steps to Claim Your 2026 Rebate

  1. Purchase a Health Canada-Licensed AED: The rebate only covers compliant, professional-grade equipment.
  2. Train Your "First Responder" Team: You must have at least one person trained in CPR and AED use on-site whenever work is underway.
  3. Submit via WSIB Online Services: Log in to your account, fill out the reimbursement form, and upload your proof of purchase. Most credits are applied to your account within 60 days.

The Alliance Advantage: Safety-Ready Staffing

At Alliance Employment Services, we help you stay ahead of these regulatory shifts. When you scale your team for a 2026 project, we ensure:

  • Trained Talent: We prioritize candidates with valid First Aid and CPR certifications to meet your on-site requirements.
