The role of Temporary or on-demand staff during Pandemic and beyond

The pandemic has changed how business organizations operate around the world. The biggest factor influencing these changes is attributed to work fluctuations that the pandemic has brought along.

Companies were forced to make the difficult decision to furlough or lay off employees in order to remain viable, but running with lean staff levels in many cases then makes it difficult to complete short-term projects, productivity drops, the company starts dealing with a number of unfinished projects, strain on existing staff is increasing.

As businesses are learning to function in the new reality, more companies are looking toward temporary worker solutions as a way to stay afloat and even scale.

Services of temporary or on-demand staff and agencies that facilitate the connection make sense for many businesses because if the business has to suddenly adjust production levels, it has the flexibility to stop and start the engagement at any time. The understanding that you can disengage from the service provided by the agency at any point makes it an attractive alternative to hiring staff directly, especially during this time when it is not possible to guarantee job security.

The recruiting and hiring process of the full time employee is usually time-consuming and expensive. Even if you find an ideal candidate, an on boarding process still exists, which also takes time and resources. All of this is typically completed without much concern under normal circumstances, but when businesses are fighting the pandemic, it can seem overwhelming. That's why temporary staffing services can be the right solution for businesses to quickly address its needs.

Temporary Staff can appear foreign if you’ve never done it before, but it can allow organizations to find the right staff when it’s needed and help business stay flexible and responsive to the ongoing demands of the operation.

“To create a successful engagement you need the right type of infrastructure to make the process as smooth as possible”.

The key is the ability to communicate in an effective manner, whether that is with the individual doing the work or the agency that assigned them to the project. Through the entirety of the project, maintaining communication "will help smooth any bumps along the way", it will also help keep correct expectations in terms of results. While projects don’t always run smoothly, having clear expectations and consistent communication, go a long way to creating satisfactory results.

At the end of the day, the flexibility to start or stop a project at any moment in order to meet the demand fluctuations and revenue flows is part of the appeal of the temporary staffing solution.

“During a time when so many things are uncertain, being able to control spending is important”. No one knows how long this pandemic crisis will last. Whether we see end in sight or not, temporary staff “will continue to provide relief for many of the workforce issues prevalent today and well after this crisis is over”.
